"Here come the streetgang, the beautiful killers ..." One has to wonder, how, when wandering down a rain-drenched Old Street, a young man could see a flyer flutter by with a picture of a robot on it, glance down Curtain Road, hear a block-rocking mix of Duran Duran's Notorious and Grandmaster Flash's The Message blaring from the entrance of the Strongroom and think, "I'll go in there and ask if they've got any Madness songs". |

We don't have any Madness songs. However, just to show how nice we are, our pulverising remix of the above-quoted ARE Weapons track was all cued up and ready to go, but was immediately rejected in response to a request from a young lady by the DJ box to "play some David Bowie". So it's all about asking for the right things. Skinny weirdos who look like aliens singing about dancing in the Serious Moonlight: Yes. Bullet-headed barrow boys singing Knees Up Mother Brown knock-offs: No. Other clubs are eclectic. We are aesthetic. |

Diggedy Derek & Leo Lonergan Not to be confused with the possibly fictitious Irish folk duo Diggedy and Lonergan, Leo and Derek kicked things off in fine style, alternating between Derek's beat-heavy early Acid and Electro and Leo's spiky pop punk and mutant funk. The more famous (some would say superior) Diggedy and Lonergan will be making an appearance at a future BSL, performing finger-in-the-ear renditions of Gary Numan classics on lute and tin whistle. John and John Despite both being beset by different strains of flu, and propped up by an interesting combination of Lemsip, brandy and sheer bloody-mindedness, the two Johns upheld their civic duty and rocked the plastic, while the people worked the floor, worked the stage, and worked the floor some more. * indicates BSL-only bootleg John D: John T: John D: John T: John D: John T:
