BigSexyLand #22:

With our minds still smarting from our debut night at the Albany a year and a half earlier (when only four of our friends, an angry dutch woman with a buzz cut and someone sheltering from the rain turned up) it was no wonder that tensions were high amongst the Big Sexy crew on the day of their big move. Luckily with the application of natural sedatives (red wine, lager top, severl hundred cigarettes) nerves were banished. The mirror ball was turned on for the first time and the volume turned right up. Luckily The Phoenix turns out to be much more like its namesake spaceship from ultra-cool Japanese cartoon Battle of the Planets than the work premises of one Brian Potter. With it's cool bar staff, booming sound system and intimate vibe we started to feel at home immediately. As obviously did some of our most valued customers - who immediately started harranging us voiciferously for New Order all night. On realising that the veteran Mancunian synth rave rock outfit had in fact just split up (again), we dropped 'Bizarre Love Triangle' only to be rewarded by people dancing like like a group of implausibly glamorous Mogwai who had just been watered after midnight. Thanks to everyone for coming down and making it such a special first night. Here's to many more. And John D especially would like to say how happy he was to see so many lesbians dancing to David Bowie.
